Please visit the project pages to learn more about how we work in Africa, “from the inside out”. glasswaters foundation is a registered Canadian charity, incorporated in Alberta as a non-profit private company and registered extra-provincially in British Columbia.

Glasswaters recognizes that social welfare supports must go hand in hand with public health programs. When Lesotho introduced free anti-retroviral medications in their public hospitals and clinics, activists and HIV patients roared with approval. Five years on, the challenge has become helping people access that life saving treatment, and following up with patients and their families in their home communities. Using village health workers to deliver training and door-to-door patient services has proven to be an effective way for Glasswaters to support the social welfare of HIV patients.

Attending primary school is important for all children — but doubly important to children who have lost their families to HIV/AIDS, and for children with disabilities. Glasswaters focuses on programs that enable vulnerable children to overcome the barriers that prevent them from attending primary school, whether it’s providing uniforms and shoes to destitute children, serving nutritious breakfasts and lunches to orphans, or funding fees for disabled children to attend specialized programs.

Glasswaters also operates a scholarship program for high school students. Our program focuses on girls. Developing skills and participating in a community of learners provides the foundation for young women to pursue careers, support their families, and lift their communities out of the poverty spiral.

Glasswaters gives orphans and disabled children the chance to grow up in safe, nurturing homes thanks to a sponsorship program that provides food, shelter, and basic health care to orphaned, disabled, and chronically ill children. For one dollar per day, we can make a profound difference in a child’s life.

In emergencies, Glasswaters steps in and provides locally sourced food for children and HIV/AIDS affected families, through school feeding programs and community dinners. In tandem, we are investing in the long term food security for vulnerable rural people, by providing seeds, fencing, tools and training for community gardens, permaculture farming programs, and fruit orchards.

Glasswaters doesn’t tell the communities we serve what they need—they tell us. That’s why we incorporate sports, theatre, dance, poetry, and filmmaking into all of our programs. Whether it’s using drama in high schools to teach about sexual and reproductive health, or using soccer as a platform to engage youth in farming programs, Glasswaters recognizes that indigenous means of communication and interaction provide the foundation for conversations that provoke meaningful change, from the inside out.
