The town of Morija is one of the most important historic and cultural sites in Lesotho. Located at the museum in Morija is the newly created Hub, a computer learning centre for area residents. Built with grants and donations, the Hub officially opened in 2015 and now offers a multitude of computer based workshops and presentations. The spirit and energy of the Hub is very impressive and the dedication and artistry that Meri Hyöky, co-founder and coordinator, brings to the work is lovely. Glasswaters now contracts with the Hub to provide Job-Ready-Fridays, educational days targeted at unemployed, out-of-school youth. Activities that focus on job readiness skills and computer access, mixed in with art and writing, provide participants with skills, motivation and inspiration.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, The Hub is refocusing education efforts into creating and distributing digital media on safe practices to prevent viral spread. Local workshops on health and safety plus food security initiatives are all helping the residents of Morija to cope with the impacts of lockdowns and food shortages.
