Access to school in Lesotho can be prohibitive for low or no income families or students without parents. Glasswaters education support began in 2008 and we now fund access to high schooling and vocational training for 21 vulnerable and orphaned youth in the Pitseng region. Concurrent and vitally important to our student support is the collaboration we now have with Selemela to reimagine education in Lesotho.
Selemela has undertaken a committed approach to facilitate learner-led education that is modernized and relevant to students and their individual environments. Significant supports that engage whole communities in the education of their youth include developing a mentorship program for the students that will inspire them, support their studies, and help them overcome poverty-related challenges; researching and providing responsive, student-centered learning curricula and individualized programs; partnering with NGO and government agencies to review and update best practices and support learners holistically.
Our collaboration projects with Selemela range from disability advocacy and skills-based learning support to community collaborations in education programs and supportive learning centres as well as individual student bursaries for project-based apprenticeship education.
